iCal for your Mobile Device

Android phones (2.x, 4.x)

Because Google Calendar will only sync the Blueprint schedule intermittently, Blueprint recommends the ICSSync software (available in the Android Play Store) for synchronizing Blueprint calendars to Android phones. ICSSync synchronizes at predictable and configurable intervals to ensure that the schedule on your Android phone is always up-to-date.

Follow these steps after installing ICSSync:

  1. Open ICSSync and click Add feed.
  2. Enter the iCal URL.
The unique iCal URL for your calendar can be found under the Setup menu in Blueprint. Click Setup on the main toolbar, double-click User administration, and then select Users. Right-click the desired name in the list of users and select Edit details. The iCal URL is located at the bottom of the Edit user dialog box. Highlight the URL and press Ctrl + C on the keyboard to copy the address. Press Ctrl + V on the keyboard to paste it into an email.
  3. Leave the Username and Password fields empty.
  4. Enter a name for the calendar (e.g. Steven McDonald).
  5. Enable the Read only check box.
  6. Click Ok to save the subscription.
  7. Click Sync all to trigger the initial synchronization.

Android tablets

ICSSync software is not currently compatible with Android 3.x. Instead, you should subscribe to the calendar using Google Calendar, and then sync the device.
Google Calendar no longer supports https URLs. A workaround is to convert the https URL, found within Blueprint, to a regular http URL, as shown in step 1 below.

First, add the subscription to your Google Calendar account:

  1. Go to https://bitly.com and convert the iCal URL.
Press Ctrl + V on the keyboard to paste it into ‘Just want to shorten a link?’ on the Bitly website.
  2. Log into your Gmail account, and access your Google calendar.
  3. In Google Calendar, click the drop-down menu next to Other Calendars, and click Add by URL.
  4. Enter the converted URL from step 1 above.
  5. Click Add Calendar.
  6. Google will begin to synchronize the calendar, and it will appear on the screen.
  7. Optionally, click the drop-down menu next to the calendar listed under Other Calendars, and click Calendar Settings.
  8. Change the Calendar Name (e.g. Steven McDonald), and click Save.

Second, verify that the new calendar is synchronized to your device:

  1. Open the Calendar app on your phone/tablet.
  2. Click the menu button, click Calendars to display, and do one of the following:
    • Click Calendars to sync, check the box next to the newly added calendar, and click Ok.
    • Click Calendars, click Display, check the box next to the newly added calendar, and click Done.
  3. View the calendar to see appointments.

  3. Enter your unique iCal URL.
  4. Click Add Calendar.
  5. Google will begin to sync your calendar, and it will appear on the screen.

By the way, as we’re getting further in to our implementation of Blueprint, we’re finding that we really like it — easy to use, does more than we expected, great support, so far very good reliability — our compliments to the entire team at Blueprint Solutions.  We didn’t have an OMS prior to Blueprint so can’t compare it to the competition, but we would certainly recommend it to other audiologists, especially those who have never had a system before. The training videos are excellent!
